How much home can I afford?

Step one in the home buying process is Know Your Budget before you look for a home.

Once you have a budget in place, you can figure out how much per month you can afford to pay on a mortgage. Knowing your comfort zone will help you narrow your search and make things go much more smoothly.

As a general rule of thumb, your total monthly housing costs should not exceed 28% of your gross monthly income.
